Before kids, I was one of those Type-A hyper-organized people who never forget a thing and went around reminding others of their own schedule. Everything in my apartment was in a certain place and super clean. After kids? I spend about 10 minutes looking for my car keys before I need to go somewhere — sometimes they’re under the ice cream in the freezer. I’m lucky if just one room in my home has some sense of organization, and to be honest, it really affects how organized or chaotic my mommy brain is at any given time. So to start the year with some sort of sanity, I’ve worked hard — OK, my husband did most of the work — to create a space just for me that can stay relatively organized and clean. My daughter, S, is super imaginative; She’ll spend hours in her room just playing with her toys and creating new toys for her toys to play with from things I’d think are trash. I absolutely love this about her and try to encourage her working imagination. So when we moved into our new home, creating the ultimate space for her to dream her big dreams was on the top of my to-do list, but I wasn’t sure how to piece it all together until I found just the right pieces to ignite my own imagination. The result? A whimsical unicorn bedroom unlike any other.
We had cute cloth-covered dining chairs and a white extendable table from in our last house. By the time we moved out everything was covered in paint and food spills courtesy of our daughter’s toddler/preschool years. So when moving into our new home we wanted dining room furniture that would look fantastic for actually having people over at the house, but that could handle the messy lifestyle of the kids. I love the results and the woodland theme kind of reminds me of Snow White. Read more

Is your master bedroom a peaceful oasis from your kids, or an enjoyable space to share with the littles? I co-sleep with my daughter so my master bedroom has always had her and all of her toys in it, despite her having her own room. But when we moved to our new home recently I decided that I’d re-design the space a bit, minus all of Savannah’s toys. Keep reading to see how I made a comfortable bright and simple master bedroom space for adults that can accommodate the kids, too.
The mint, gray and white color combo is huge this year. I noticed it as a rising trend while at the ABC Expo in October and immediately started planning my son’s nursery room with these colors paired with a star, moon and cloud theme.
