At first, my ideas were everywhere while planning my daughter Blakely’s first birthday. I knew I wanted to be able to repurpose most of the decorations from her party —Especially since I knew I’d be putting some money into them — so I chose a theme that I could use in her new toddler bedroom. With a lot of planning and help, it turned into a very elegant and yet simple floral first birthday party. Read more

I remember standing in line with my niece for over an hour to see the mall Santa when she was 4. Kids and parents alike were acting restless! Over the years, lines didn’t get much better so I stopped going. Until this year. Now, I’m urging everyone to visit a very special mall Santa after my family’s first experience at HGTV’s Santa HQ.Read more

One of the benefits of working with so many amazing brands is that they often offer great discounts to our readers. Here, you’ll find affiliate links to some of our favorite brands, along with frequently updated discount codes! As a reminder, affiliate links are links to the brand’s website that includes a tracking code at the end to let the brand know that you clicked on a link from me to order from them. Doing so doesn’t change the price of anything on their website or cost you anything, but it does allow for Navigating Parenthood to be paid a percentage of the sale as a thank you from the business. This amount varies based on what the company has decided to pay its’ affiliates using its marketing budget. It’s incredibly easy to support Navigating Parenthood by choosing to click one of the links listed here when you choose to shop with these businesses, but it means the world to me. Thank you so much for your support! Read more

Teething is one of the scariest times for new and veteran parents — when you don’t know what to do or how to help your little one feel better and get some rest it can be exhausting (emotionally and physically). Everyone has an opinion about what you should do too, but safety information is updated so frequently that you can’t always do what your friend, aunt or sister did. There are a few useful ways to help baby stay cool & calm safely though, and I’m sharing my favorites! Seriously, we just used these to reduce teething pain while on baby’s first flight and for our ceremony to renew our vows and my little Nora was a cool happy baby the whole time! Read more
It’s amazing how much babies change from birth to their first birthday, not just in the full year, but with each month! So what might be a great gift for a newborn or 2-month-old isn’t really the best fit for babies ages 6-12 months who are already crawling and possibly toddling around. At this age, the best gifts for babies foster security and development as they become their own little independent person.

If you’re a toddler parent, you already know this, but for those who aren’t: Not all toddlers like the same things. Mine is a jump in the mud puddles, play with trains, smile about animals, and kick up sand kind of toddler. He enjoys playing pretend with dolls and cars too, but it’s overall all about adventure and curiosity over here — exactly why his room fits this theme, too. So if you’re looking for holiday gifting ideas for a tot like mine, you’re reading the right post. Onward!Read more
