If you made it to the first year think about this- If you made it to the first year think about this- You held your little in your arms outside of your body for 365 days. Through feeding challenges, driving stops, teething, dancing, bouncing & calming, travel, fun, daily chores, and so much more. You held them. And it was everything. Something about the very last baby makes the first birthday hit differently. It’s the final first birthday. The last first year. And when this birthday comes you tend to look back on the day your baby was born. A day I still haven’t written about for navigatingparenthood.com a year later. I don’t know why, but I didn’t feel ready to rehash it in my mind and now here we are… a year later with so many forgotten pieces. Realizing I buried something with it. Choking up watching quick videos and sweet photos from that day. This brings us to processing birth. It doesn’t take a day. I’m still working on it. I don’t usually decorate much outside other than the door and porch so this is always fun for the kids. How have you leaned into your baby’s interests t How have you leaned into your baby’s interests to foster life skills and instill joy in being capable? I recently shared a ball drop video where Wes was so excited because he saw how happy his actions made us (we all said “yay!”). Building that intrinsic joy and ability to want to work at accomplishing something is so beneficial. Not just for praise (though babies do love that) but sense of self ability and inclusivity.
