New Zealand’s Solution For Dairy Sensitivity
A lot of things change with age, and dairy sensitivity is definitely one of them. I’ve found that I can’t consume as much milk as before, and some ice creams give me more stomach troubles than others. There have also been studies showing that 1 in 4 Americans feel discomfort after consuming cow’s milk so I know that I’m not the only one. I don’t normally talk about cow’s milk on Savvy Every Day, but I know families do drink it so I’ve partnered as an ambassador with a company that’s working to create milk made specifically for families experiencing dairy discomfort but haven’t been medically diagnosed with a lactose intolerance.
This post was sponsored by a2 Milk® as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.
The New Zealand-based a2 Milk Company™ was created by scientist Dr. Corran McLachlan and his business partner Howard Patterson in 2000 after discovering that cows naturally produce different types of milk proteins, which affect people differently. a2 Milk® —Which is made specifically for families with dairy sensitivities — has found that self-diagnosed dairy sensitivity may be linked to the A1 protein now appearing in cows due to over-production and genetic modification of their milk. So how does a2 Milk® offer milk natural farm fresh milk with just the A2 protein our bodies can digest? The a2 Milk Company™ is now moving their business into the U.S. and so has begun working with U.S. family dairy farmers in Upstate New York and the Midwest to grow their heirloom a2™ herd, which they state naturally produce milk free from the A1 protein.
I don’t know about you but I had no idea that there were different types of milk protein in cows. This shows how much the treatment of animals can affect the outcome of products and our society as well, which led me to wonder how the cows are treated on the a2 Milk® farms. The a2 Milk Company™ says they ensure that their farmers are certified in the humane treatment of animals and that the cows are never given hormones, rBST or a non-vegetarian diet. With all of the really horrific animal videos that have been popping up on my Facebook feed lately humane treatment of animals is HUGE for me so I really appreciate that the company certifies all of their farmers and cares for the cows, leading to an antibiotic-free milk with no additives or artificial ingredients. Did you know that a lot of milk companies add things to the milk? It’s so strange!
Over the next few months you’ll learn a bit more about a2 Milk® through a few more partner posts here on the site, but if you’re having tummy troubles when drinking your regular milk now and you’ve already seen a doctor (that has stated that you don’t have Galactosaemia, lactose intolerance or cow’s milk allergy) then try doing an a2 Milk® taste test to see if it changes the way you feel about dairy. Whether you’re a fat-free, low-fat, reduced-fat (2 percent), or whole milk drinker there’s a half-gallon a2 Milk® (about$4.50) available for you. Though a2 Milk® is primarily found in natural food stores like Sprouts, The Fresh Market, and Whole Foods, it’s also appearing throughout California stores like Ralph’s. It’s easiest to find the store closest to you via the Store Locator option on their website, here. Let me know if you try a2 Milk® and it helps with your dairy sensitivity!
